Footballers named in
Spanish match-fixing
investigation
A total of 41 professional football
players, coaches and directors have
been named in a match-fixing
investigation in Spain.
According to various reports,
prosecutors have alleged that almost
€1 million ($1.4 million) was paid to
Levante players to lose a Spanish
Liga top-tier match against Zaragoza
at the end of the 2010-11 season.
Zaragoza needed to win the
match to avoid relegation from
the top division.
Current Manchester United
midfielder Ander Herrera is one of
the most high profile players to have
been named in the case.
The Spanish international left
Zaragoza for rival Liga side
Athletic Bilbao in 2011 before
joining the English Premier Leagu P
