While the huge potential of a young, football-mad population of 1.2 billion
and growing is undoubted, significant hurdles remain for operators and partners
looking to enter igaming markets in African countries. Chief among these obstacles
are inconsistent regulation and a product landscape shaped by what the CEO of one
operator describes as the “leapfrogging phenomenon” of becoming a mobile market
virtually overnight, with desktop barely figuring. We unpack the opportunities and
complexities in these emerging markets from p45.
Elsewhere, we delve into the new iterations of social betting and also look beyond
ICOs at the challenges posed to first movers in the blockchain casino space by P2P
products, such as decentralised prediction markets, which completely remove the
trusted intermediary.
