Uncle Sam Poster story
“Must get away, must get away” Alex thought as he sprinted as fast as he could from his enraged brother, Nathan. All Alex had done was go into his room. Yes, he may have “accidentally” shattered all his soccer trophies, but that was no reason to chase him! Okay, maybe that was a little extreme, but Alex liked to annoy his brother. Anyway, let’s get back to Alex running for his life. Suddenly, Alex was on the staircase leading down to the scary basement. He looked at his brother coming towards him, face red, he looked at the dreaded basement. He looked back at his infuriated sibling, and decided the basement was the safer option. He rushed inside, and closed the door just in time. The doorknob started moving, and he realized he hadn’t locked the door. “Do I really want to lock myself in a morgue”, Alex thought (His imagination had started to overreact). “I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!” Nathan said. Alex decided to lock the door. Alex ran and hid behind a box, just in case, because Nathan was pretty strong, and he wouldn’t put it past him to somehow break the door off its hinges. After 30 seconds of pounding, Nathan finally left. Alex breathed out a sigh of relief, and was just about to get up when he heard “I WANT YOU TO JOIN THE U.S. ARMY” Startled, Alex hit his head against the low ceiling. He looked at the direction of the noise, and it appeared to have come from a large cardboard box in front of him. Slowly, he crawled towards the box and carefully took off the lid of the box. “I WANT YOU TO JOIN THE U.S. ARMY” Alex fell back again. Less scared than before, he looked inside the box. “I WANT YOU TO JOIN THE U.S. ARMY” This time, Alex was ready this time, and ignored the voice. Inside was a large poster with a strange picture of a man on it, wearing a combination of red, white, and blue, and a finger pointing directly at him. “WHERE AM I!” It seemed that the poster was talking, it’s mouth moving as it yelled at him. Alex was slightly weirded out, but decided to try to talk to it (After all, this is the mind that at first thought this was a morgue). “Could you please talk more quiet” Alex asked the poster. “THIS IS MY INSIDE VOICE” the poster said. “We should work on that” Alex replied. “Anyway,... “ Alex said, “Why are you here?” “weLL!”, the poster said, (Alex realised part of the word had been slightly more quiet. Progress!) “I still don’t know Where I am, but I know how I started out. A man called James Montgomery Flagg created me on July 6, 1916, and made me pretty well, I might add.” continued the poster. “ I was copied 400,000,000 times, and I am an iconic propaganda poster that convinced Americans to join the war.” “So basically your a piece of paper that tried to convince people to do stuff. “NO!!!” the poster said (“I had just made him be quiet, at least I tried” thought Alex) “I AM NOT JUST A PIECE OF PAPER THAT TRIED TO CONVINCE PEOPLE TO DO THINGS!” “I WAS AN ICONIC SYMBOL DURING THE WAR THAT INCREASED PEOPLE’S LOYALTY AND PATRIOTISM. I CONVINCED MANY BRAVE SOLDIERS TO FIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY, AND I AM ONE OF THE REASONS AMERICA IS A FREE COUNTRY TODAY!” “Calm down man”said Alex. “Fine!” the poster said. “I can scare you really easily if I wanted to!” the poster said. “Clearly you can,” Alex smiled mischievously “Can you scare an older brother?"
