Loos football
It was a soccer ball for us because for them it is a “football” but in the USA, it is a soccer ball. It was used in the battle of loos, which is why it was called the loos football, and it was the largest british attack in 1915. The way they used was so when they kicked it, the soldiers would have sporting spirit and will fight harder. Then, the ball was found hanging on the german wire. There was a volunteer rifle regiment, called the 1st Battalion of the London Irish Rifles, the LIR. The captain of the LIR, Sgt. Frank Edwards, was the one who kicked the ball. The LIR were famous for their soccer prowess and they brought the Loos Football. Their successful attack and subsequent defense of their position earned the LIR their second battle honor.
