She hatched
wet feathers stuck to her body
looking like an ugly little dinosaur
not knowing she would dry to a fluffy yellow
to be held in someone’s loving hands-
not knowing she would grow wings and
become beautiful-
no one ever told her but
no matter-
she had dream filled cupcakes and
pony rides on the carousel
no one told her
she would fly to a new home –
someday
