CUAP is a national ultrasound accreditation program sponsored by ACEP, the American College of Emergency Physicians with the country’s first program accredited in 2015. CUAP was created by emergency physicians to be a simple, quality-based process for emergency ultrasound program accreditation that ensures emergency departments meet standards described in ACEP’s Ultrasound Guidelines. CUAP incorporates functional criteria such as safety,

quality assurance, education, and management towards accreditation.

Since 2018 within IES, two emergency departments bear CUAP accreditation: John Peter Smith (JPS) Hospital and Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC). These departments join the ranks of departments who’ve earned accreditation in DFW including Southwestern Medical Center as well as other EDs in Texas including Darnall Army Medicine Center in Fort Hood and San Antonio Military Medical Center.

We have reason to be proud knowing our flagship facilities operate high quality emergency ultrasound programs and are generating revenue from indicated studies performed and interpreted by credentialed physicians.
