Hard work wins recognition at
Iran Section annual meeting
IRAN Section held its annual meeting on
15 May along with the 21st Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering (ICEE’13) at
Ferdowsi University, Mashhad, Iran.
Prof M Fotouhi, chairman of IEEE Iran
Section, told us the plans of the Section for
the next two years, including membership
development, founding new chapters, and
so on. Dr F Abdollahi, secretary of the IEEE
Iran Section, reported on her attendance at
the 100th IEEE Region 8 meeting in Madrid,
at which Iran Section received the 2012 Outstanding Section Award.
At this meeting, Prof SK Yadavar Nikravesh
and Prof AM Ranjbar received the IEEE Iran
Section Distinguished Senior Researcher and
Instructor awards and Dr Kh Mehrani was
given the Young Researcher award.
Dr M Ashourian, the counselor of Majlesi
Azad University, was honoured to receive
the Outstanding Student Branch Counselor
award and the IEEE Student Branch of University of Tehran won the Student Branch
award.
In addition, the Student Branches of
Ferdowsi University and Shiraz University
of Technology were recognised for their
extensive activities.
Finally, the BSc, MSc and PhD Thesis
awards were given to A Sandoogh-saz
(University of Tehran), P Dehghanian (Sharif
University of Technology) and M Abdolahad (University of Tehran). Also, M OmidYeganeh (Sharif University of Technology)
was honoured to receive the Iran Section’s
Woman in Engineering award.
Conference in Tunisia focuses on
advanced logistics and transport
ICALT 2013, the 2nd International
Conference on Advanced Logistics
and Transport, was held at El Mouradi Hotel Sousse El Kantaoui, Tunisia,
from 29–31 May. The conference
was technically co-sponsored by
the IEEE Intelligent Transportation
Systems Society and the IEEE Sfax
subsection.
The technical program included
nine plenary talks, 95 papers, a doctoral consortium, two tutorials on
RFID and supply chain networks,
and a workshop on smart cities.
