SIG on DIP Fundamentals
February 11, 2016 : An SIG (Special Interest Group) on fundamentals of Digital Image Processing was held. Final year students from Department of Electronics and Communication
engineering took the initiative to educate the members,
starting from the basics of fundamentals of signal processing. The response from the students was overwhelming.
The interaction session was very friendly in nature and
the members were able to clear their doubts about the
subject. The teachers also gave the students some special
tips to tackle typical problems of the subject. From interpreting a signal in space and time to understanding RGB
and CMYK components of an image, the SIG ended with
students suggesting more topics for further SIG programs. The SIG was a very successful event and the students were satisfied with their lessons from the day.
SPARSH
February 2016 : With 30 proactive volunteers who have enthusiastically offered to devote three hours per week for
two months, the outreach program of IEEE IGDTUW,
Sparsh has been launched. The aim of the program is to
bring about the change in the lives of the under privileged
girls in these homes through education. Volunteers not only
teach subjects like Mathematics, Science and English, but
also teach more fundamental yet absolutely necessary activities for a better and more hygienic day to day. The girls
are taught about basic self-cleanliness, ways to maintain a
better hygiene and the risks of improper sanitation.
Apart from the theoretical perspective of class room
teaching, the volunteers thrive to create a lively learning
environment by introducing the girls to interactive methods, involving live demonstrations, working models and
quoting the actual day to day application of the facts they
read in books. The volunteers work hard to create an
open and free environment, encouraging interest from
the girls who then feel free to share their ideas on the
platform provided to them.
