WIE TALK
October 16, 2015 : Women are no more the second sex or the fairer one, thanks to the constant
revolutions made by women of mettle who’ve proved time and again that they aren’t meant for
‘seconds.’
The role of women has been indispensable to all fields alike. Be it technology, entertainment, teaching or home making, women have left no
stone unturned. To spread the word and encourage fellow women and
youth to follow their dreams, IEEE IGDTUW and WIE IGDTUW under
the aegis of Enactus IGDTUW and Lean In, organized a day long event
where experts from various fields were invited to share their experience and interact with the youth.
Beginning the session was R. Shreenivasan, the co founder of CL Educate and alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University and IIM Bangalore.
He had successful stints with TCS and Sony Entertainment and he gave
a talk about entrepreneurship and challenges faced by a newbie at
business and industry.
Continuing the session was Prof. Nupur Prakash who is the Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women. She possesses
an experience of 30 years in research, teaching and academic administration, with several years spent holding key leadership positions. She
talked about women’s contribution towards science and technology and
encouraged the attendees to aim high, keep focus, work hard and
achieve whatever was on their minds.
The third speaker of the day was Ms. Rajni Kakkar who has over 18 years of
experience in the field of international career and educational consulting
company. She has traveled extensively and guided a large number of aspirants to leading US universities. She talked about the challenges she faced as a
woman in her professional life and how she conquered each of those to be
the amazing woman of substance she is today.
The final speaker of the day was Ms. Runjhun Gupta who is a graduate
in finance from Delhi University and has worked at Future First, before
joining the Bank of America in 2007. She then quit her job to start Dance
Addiction at her home in Noida, in November 2008. She joined an executive masters program from IIM Calcutta, again in finance, in April 2009.
After she returned a year later, she launched ZipOut which today clocks
a turnover of Rs. 10 Lac. She talked about her venture and what it took
for her to get there. She also held a small interactive session with the
students to engage them into believing in their potential and getting a
step closer to their dreams.
