The explosive pace of technology’s advancement has given “Interaction”, a whole
new perspective. This article is a massive turn around for those who are
disappointed by science, today on account of several unmet expectations like
“flying cars”. It is a very common habit to shun sci-fi movies that display
holographic screens that appear on walls, tables and a lot of other inanimate
objects, that “scientists” used to interact with by giving commands with the help of
certain hand-actions. With the sprouting of the “Sixth Sense Technology”, this is
becoming a more realistic scenario.
Let us cut to the chase and talk
about what actually Six Sense
technology is. A couple of
researchers at MIT Media Lab in
the year 1994, ‘97, and ‘98
developed gesture-based wearable
technologies that would serve
some graphical purposes. It
initially started off as a head-
worn device and soon within a
year, evolved to a neck-worn one.
A couple of years worth of hard work found its ground-breaking moment in the
hands of Pranav Mistry (again, at MIT Media Lab) in the year 2009 when the
technology actually came into the limelight. It contained a projector and a camera
embedded within a single pendant worn on the neck or the head.
This technology is nothing but a sharp reflection of augmented reality minimized
into comfortable proportions. The most generic and common way to deal and
interact with the digital realm is via Smartphones, Laptops, tabs and several other
devices given the fact that human beings are seemingly incapable of direct
interaction of such kind. However, with the help of 6th sense technology, we can
move several gigantic steps closer to the digital barrier. This is done by converting
your surroundings (Like walls, tables or handheld objects) into your gadgets. This
utilization of the environment to harness technical applications is done with the
