In the 2004 FA Cup final, Ronaldo scored the team's first three goals helping them capture the championship. In 2008, a year after signing a five-year, £31 million contract, Ronaldo again justified the high tab when he put together one of the club's greatest seasons in history, setting a franchise record for goals scored (42), and earning himself the FIFA World Player of the Year honour. Ronaldo lead Manchester United to three premier league titles.

In 2009, Spanish soccer club Real Madrid agreed to pay a record $131 milion to sign Ronaldo and that is when he left Manchester United. Ronaldo quotes "I know that they are going to demand a lot of me to be successful at the club and I know that I'm going to have much more pressure than at Manchester United because I was there for many years. But it means a new challenge and it's going to help me be the best footballer." Not only had Ronaldo achieved his esteen needs as he was pursuing his dream, he had also attained his cognitive needs as well since he was looking to increase his knowledge of this game and add more meaning to what he wanted to achieve in terms of being the best he can be.
