Michel Chikwanine became a child soldier at the age of 5 and was forced to kill his friend, Kevin while he was blindfolded. The rebels took the child soldiers to a local village and that was where Michel escaped, he hid in the jungle for 3 days only eating mangos. Then he found a market that his father had been to and the store owner took him home. That wasn’t the end. When he was 10 years old, soldiers came into their family home, Michel wanted to stand up but the soldiers only laughed at him and pointed a gun at his head. He was forced to watch his mother and elder sisters get raped. In 2004 they moved to Ottawa and that’s where he was attending high school. He has now talked to over 100,000 people about his story. Michel has always wanted to be his dad, his dad wasn’t perfect but he was always trying to do good things in the world.
