The concepts of esthetics in clinical orthodontics un- describes a need to define complete coordination of macro-esthetics, mini-esthetics and micro-esthetics. This purpose of this article is to illustrate mini-esthetics principles which can be incorporated into orthodontic treatment planning to achieve excellence in orthodontic treatment. An optimal smile is characterized by an average incisor display, consonant smile arc with minimal lateral negative space and well integrated gingival components. These concepts of smile esthetics are not new, but are too often overlooked in orthodontics. Introduction In this appearance related society that we live in, children, adolescents and adults are becoming increasingly self-conscious about their smile. Individuals, seeking esthetic treatment today wish to enhance their appearance for their improved self-esteem and quality of life. This trend toward a heightened awareness of esthetics has challenged the field of dentistry to look into this aspect in a more organized and systematic manner.
