Implant level impression is required to record the exact position, depth, angulation and soft tissue
emergence of the implant and its prosthetic component.Open tray impression allows the pickup
copings to be picked up along with the impression.Hence its always preferred to make an open tray,
implant level impression when a crown or bridge is planned over implants.This article describes the
technique to record an open tray,implant level impression for a full maxillary arch implant supported
fixed prosthesis.

Aims and Objectives
1. To demonstrate the procedure of open tray,
pick up impression technique in a full arch
fixed implant prosthesis
2. To demonstrate the efficacy of pick up
impression over transfer impression
Introduction
Impression in implant dentistry is basically
divided into two types
1. Implant level impression
2. Abutment level impression
Implant level impression records the exact
position of implant, depth of implant , angulation
of implant and the soft tissue emergence of the
crown.
1. Pick up type (open tray impression)
2. Transfer type(closed tray impression)
In pick up type impression, the pick up
impression copings are used along with an
open tray and they are picked up along with the
impression and the impression is poured.
In transfer type impression, the transfer
impression copings are used with a closed tray
and they are transferred into the impression
from oral cavity after the impression is made.
Pick up impression is always better as the
implant position ,depth and angulation with
emergence are just captured the same in
impression where as in transfer type
impression, when we insert the transfer copings
back in impression after the impression is
made, there could be few errors that could
creep in.
The present article demonstrates how a pick up
type impression is made in a full maxillary arch
implant supported fixed prosthesis.
Case Demonstration
Abutment level impression records the
abutment that’s present outside the soft tissue
Implant level impression is of two types again
1. Patient is recalled after three months of first
stage of implant placement. It’s a five implant
supported maxillary arch fixed prosthesis
