NP: If you lived in another country,
would you be less judgmental and accept yourself as you are?
AA: I have never stopped accepting the
way I am. If I lived in another country,
well, I don’t know, because I don’t live
in another place; I live here, in Cuba,
and have no ideas if my way of thinking
would be different elsewhere.
NP: But, if you say you accept yourself
as you are, why are you afraid of your
family and others finding out about
your sexual orientation?
AA: I am not afraid, but don’t consider it
prudent to say anything about it. I have
nothing to gain and would rather live my
life with anyone having to intervene in
my sexual tastes. I also don’t see any
reason to sit with my family and make
them take part in my personal life. If
someday they find out, well, we’ll see
what happens.
NP: Whom do you see yourself living
with in the future: a man or a woman?
AA: I can’t talk to you about the future;
at this time, I live in the present, and at
this moment I am in a relationship with a
man. In the future, maybe I’ll be with
this same man, or with a woman. The
future is hard to predict; thus, I’m fine as
I am. I only hope that in the future we all
capable of understanding that there a
many ways to love, and the difference
and varied tastes.
