Thus, we suffer from structural violence,
with its intangible barriers that keep us
from having access to basic rights that
have nothing at all to do with skin color
or sexual orientation. We could also add
to this the common, everyday violence
we endure, which is very present in Afro-descendant and LGBTQ communities. Forceful impositions and intimidation cause devastating harm and conse-
quences, which lead to handicaps and
even death. The mass media should
make visible and openly analyze these
topics. Both LGBTQ and Afrodescendant communities want and need
to feel accepted for what we are and how
we behave, so we don’t have to see ourselves and feel like the last rung on the
social ladder.
