Who can question it? He must know
why he made things that way. Each thing
in Ifá has a reason for being; everything
is written in each of Ifá’s Odduns (personalities). It is our obligation to study
and interpret in order to be able to explain to each person his or her salvation,
according to hat the Ifá oracle says.
Ojuani boshe explains how an Ifá priest
struck his brother because he was a homosexual and prevented him from becoming consecrated in the secrets of
awofakan. He was ashamed of his brother omo (son) of Eleggua because he had
the ashé (good fortune) to be able to
predict and foretell the future of those
looking for Ifá’s truth. The story tells us
that his brother omo (son) of Eleggua
only wanted his brother to consecrate
him and the awo (spiritual guide) struck
him in the face. Upon seeing this, Eleggua became very alarmed, and his
brother went to cry at the feet of Olofi
and Obbatalá. Eleggua decided that the
awo had to be punished, because he, too,
was a homosexual, and Orula didn’t
know it. The awo’s hands were permanently affected; this is The Path of the
One-Armed, which forces one to go to
another Orula awo to request help and
intercession before Olofi and Obbatalá.
The punishment was pronounced at that
very moment: the Orula awos can consecrate any homosexual into the awofakan
secrets.
