or over fifty years, we Cubans have
been subjected to deceitful and unpolished forms of populism that
attempted to promote a system in which we
were supposed to be eternally committed to
justice and equity.
and will. These misfortunes have been
made possible because of the iron-gripped,
totalitarian control with which the government subjects each and every citizen via a
perennially available oppressive mechanism.
The circumstances for Cubans to exercise
their citizens’ rights are very unfavorable
right now. Ideas, and their diffusion and
application, are seriously limited: there is a
society-wide, total ignorance of democracy.
The work many of us are doing from within
Cuban civil society, and other initiatives,
have now been accepted by different groups
Citizens have experienced and perceived
this false paradise as a long road plagued by
uncertainties, burdens, and grief. Adorned
by an enormous fallacy, this absurd ideology has been a fantasy that brought with it
Cubans being deprived of their most basic
rights, and with it diminishing self-esteem
