processes in different zones of our planet.
In view of the aforementioned context,
two large, national networks, the Red de
Organizaciones Juveniles Indígenas del
Perú [Network of Indigenous Youth
Organization of Peru] and Ashanti Perú,
Red Peruana de Jóvenes AfroDescendientes [Network of Young Afro-Descendants] took the initiative and
created the First National Meeting of
Young Indigenous Peoples and AfroPeruvians on Climate Change. Both
networks were able to support the entire
planning process and, above all, offer
testimonies of successful experiences all
throughout Peru. The two are known
nationally and internationally, and have
a national membership.
II. The organization
How did the idea come about? How
did the working group form? Who
joined?
Youth are passive regarding all social
aspects, particularly when it comes to
the environment. This is why we
thought it essential to empower the participation of Afro-Peruvian youth with
respect to the issue of climate change.
This is a particularly important part of
their lives in highly vulnerable areas
due to the very same process: environmental impact caused by extractive industries, deforestation, illegal tree
felling and mining, and deficient environmental policies.
In this sense, the meeting was a way to
talk about experiences, knowledge and
participation at all pertinent levels, and
about the debates and adopted decisions, all reflected in society. The goal
is to reduce the causes and deploy concrete actions to adapt, mitigate and
communicate the effects of the climatic

Create a shared action plan that considers the realities of Peruvian AfroDescendant and Indigenous youth to
strengthen their participation in public
policies regarding climate change.
