So long as there is system of censorship, a self-pleasing lack of criticism,
patronage, and self-interested simulation in Cuba, it is very likely that the
genuine representative of this movement will continue their work without
access to the mass media and other,
official, cultural spaces. Yet, each and
every Cuban, each young person who
hears their brutal, realistic, and profound poetry will be and remain convinced of the fact that the problems,
concerns, and hopes that move us and
motivate us all have not been totally
silenced.
hope. We should not pass up the opportunity to acknowledge the Cuban rappers. Their consequent firmness has
made them into the standard bearers of
the difficult struggle for the equality
and justice and that have so often been
promised and denied us.
Upon hearing the bravery and sensitivity with which our present reality can be
expressed and questioned, we remain
convinced that although our voices have
been silenced for some time, our conscience can never be totally numbed.
That is what Cuban hip-hop has shown
us.
Cuban rappers are still the voice of people without a voice who refuse to lose
