For an independent artist, especially one with critical discourse towards the dogmas that tear apart the Cuban cultural field, it is extremely difficult to find spaces where different criteria on art, politics, radicalism, gender violence and other topics of interest come together. Not only for creators with a thirst of turning visible these themes, since in addition to being an active part of their work, they enjoy a high degree of interest in the contemporary Cuban society. Meetings to disseminate the magazine Identidades [ Identities ] began to take place at a central house in the neighborhood El Vedado( Havana). I had the opportunity to take part in one of them, invited by their facilitators to animate it with music.
I confess that firstly I felt a little out of touch. I am accustomed to a little more intense dynamic in the presentations with my group. We generally make performances in larger spaces with much more public, a powerful sound system and the complicity of more than one fist up ready to encourage us or simply as a mark of respect for the lyrics they are listening.
