in Strawberry... they appeared not only as protagonists, almost always victims of an unjust and intolerant society, but also as carriers of liberal values, including tolerance and mutual understanding.
It is striking that the Cuban cinema on homosexual themes does not include motion pictures that can be considered explicitly erotic. Nevertheless, as a way for categorizing the performance, almost all films include scenes with high homosexual erotic charge. Out of this list is precisely Strawberry and Chocolate, in which the erotic scene is heterosexual. To get insights in this kind of films, it is important to judge the imprint left by the Festival of New Latin American Cinema. In all its thirty or more editions, homosexual themes have been present as plots or subplots, in the latter case as stories on male inmates. The 29th edition featured Wilde( 1997), directed by British director Brian Gilbert and starring Stephen Fry and
