These groups are overcrowded in a small number of occupations . The overrepresentation of black and mestizo people in low-paid and social discredited trades is recognized by both the researchers and the society , but it is assumed as a natural aspect of the social life and not as an indirect discrimination against the population that , for centuries , was condemned to bondage . The key difference with the domestic servants in the republican period ( 1902- 58 ) is that , nowadays , many of these women have some education and had even achieved university degrees , which apparently did not serve to stop being state domestic workers .
