These groups are overcrowded in a small number of occupations. The overrepresentation of black and mestizo people in low-paid and social discredited trades is recognized by both the researchers and the society, but it is assumed as a natural aspect of the social life and not as an indirect discrimination against the population that, for centuries, was condemned to bondage. The key difference with the domestic servants in the republican period( 1902- 58) is that, nowadays, many of these women have some education and had even achieved university degrees, which apparently did not serve to stop being state domestic workers.
