Over the past two years( cancelled due to fires in 2012), Vince Zappy, who is the man behind the publishing / promoting company which makes the Idaho Game Warden magazine happen, has seen one of his small ideas take root. After travelling up the Middle Fork of the Boise River and seeing too much trash, Vince decided to organize a Saturday clean up of the river area from Arrow rock Reservoir all the way to Atlanta. No small logistical feat, Vince had picked up sponsors who are providing everything from water for the volunteers to food for a barbecue to garbage bags. The idea started small, but I am confident that the litter pickup will do wonders for the area. To date, somewhere around 100 volunteers will give up part of their Saturday to make a positive difference.
We are all faced with the dilemma of contributing more to a problem or being part of a solution to that problem. In many cases, it is easiest to do nothing. Doing a small something can be an important part of an ongoing solution. If you don’ t have money to give to a cause, think about volunteering your time to try to make difference. It just takes picking up one piece of litter to make a positive change. Your good example may inspire those watching you to do the same, and the impact could eventually be significant. It just has to start with you- doing the right thing.
