From the Rack Room

So, this is our 2nd issue, finally. First off, I want to apologize to all of our members for the delay in getting this one out. I also need to apologize to our advertisers. Those of you that took a chance on / with us deserve better and if you are willing to stay with us, your next ad is on us at no charge to you.
Now, on to business. You should notice the cover. We decided to give the magazine it’ s own identity. We also wanted the name to show who the magazine is for, Idaho’ s Deer Hunters. We really hope this shows that this is your magazine …. Your input is very important to us. We want your ideas, your stories, and your help making this grow. So if you have any of those for us, send them on, we would love to hear them.
There has been some concerns lately on our stance on hunting rights. Well, let me say this: We are 100 % in favor of the preservation of all hunting, fishing, and trapping for all properly licensed citizens of Idaho. As we know there are many ways to achieve this goal. However, we must start at home first. Talk to non-hunters you know, explain why you hunt and the benefits of those activities, even for the wildlife. Remember a non-hunter is not necessarily an anti-hunter. Educate our youth on proper techniques and ethics. Our youth are our future. We also must not forget the matter of habitat. As growth moves more into deer winter range, we must maintain and improve the habitat that remains.
In closing, a remembrance: On October 5th, former Fish & Game Director Jerry Conley passed away. On Aug 27th, I shared this story with Virgil Moore( current F & G director). I moved here in 1991, about a year or so later I was listening to Jerry’ s radio show on KBOI, I called in and asked about local turkey hunting. I didn’ t know at the time of Jerry’ s passion for turkeys. He asked me to call him at the office the next day, so I did. Well a phone call lead to a meeting with some maps. Jerry shared some of his favorite spots and some of the spots he had taken Governor Andrus on turkey hunting trips. In no time I learned Jerry was an awesome guy and a great promoter of Idaho’ s wildlife. No matter what your opinion of Fish & Game, I knew the man Jerry and his love of Idaho’ s outdoors. I am sure some of his passion rubbed off on me! God Bless you Jerry and thank you!
