DEFINITION OF LEARNING

To ensure that we teach students how to learn , ICS developed a Definition of Learning . Our definition gives us intentionality , it gives us direction and it gives us parameters for us to create optimal and innovative learning environments for our students and teachers every day .
Our Definition of Learning is that “ learning is an ongoing process in which learners acquire , develop and apply knowledge , skills , and dispositions essential to thrive in , and contribute to , an ever-changing world .”
At the same time , students learn best when teaching and learning are meaningful , authentic , reflective , collaborative , conceptual , transdisciplinary , active , and personalized .

LEARNING COMMUNITIES

Learning communities are literal spaces where teachers and students come together to learn , spaces where learning is collaborative and co-constructed between teachers and students , spaces where students work with other students to learn , grow and excel , together .
We have many examples of learning communities in all divisions . The math hub in high school , the collective and community open spaces in middle school , and the entire purpose-built new elementary school are the perfect environments for collaborative learning .
