ICONIC JULY 2015 | Page 50

Francine Nedd, aka the Poetess Queen Francine was born in her hometown of Washington DC, on August 11, to John D Nedd and Lottie Smith; both are deceased.

She is the youngest daughter of 4 siblings living in different cities across the USA. Her son DeAngelo Nedd and wife Olga Nedd are expecting her first granddaughter due mid July giving her a new triumphant title of "Grandma" A luxury she sincerely embraces.

2015 has opened new and broader horizons for the Queen with a new 2 page spread in the July issue of Iconic Magazine. Her face lends way to a spectrum smile as she looks vividly back at the desolate life God delivered her from. It wasn't always on the up for the Queen. She has suffered many tragic life encounters, hurts, bumps, bruises, of urban street life including that of domestic violence. God has taken her turbulent life and gave structure to her story and created "The Woman now known as the Poetess Queen Francine."

Poetess Queen Francine is Poetry, a Verbal Force ascending strongly in an Undiluted world filled with damage, compromised minds…She is that little light that shines truth in a world of shadows darkness and traps; a light leading to that OMNIPRESENCE, called GOD.

Queen, grew up listening to legends such as Al Johnson of the Unific's, Skip Mahoney and the Casuals, Gil Scott Heron just to name a few. She never knew that she’d one day grace the stage with legends she once listened attentively to. In 2014 she opened for the Last Poets at the famed Carter Baron Amphitheater in Washington DC and event celebrating the life of the Late Gil Scott Heron.

Yes, Queen Francine is quickly rising and making a name for herself. She is a powerful Spoken Word Artist, Writer, and Author, but it is her voice, her unique poetic flow to music, that has caused eyes and ears to pop, heads turn and taking notice of her drawn to her commanding stage presence.

Her raw urban style has been compared to that of late Gil Scott-Heron; and singer Jil Scott (a compliment in which she receives as quite an honor) The Queen, which she is often referred to is accompanied, and energized by her band PoehTre. She truly doesn’t miss a beat delivering truth to train and untrained ears; her selection of works in her words "Its like a box of Cracker Jacks, there's a surprise waiting on ever track.

Her work has been heard on several radio and TV shows nationally and internationally such as All Nations TV and internet radio shows; Blues Jazz radio, Tony Gill Show, Jo Khool Jazz to name a few.

She's co hosted 1340 WYCB’s Poetry and Praise Friday’s and One on One with the Lord. Listen for her work on WOOK, WEACT RADIO 103.1 WPFW WPFW 93.9 and University Of MD Radio and the list is still climbing.

In 2010 she opened for gospel artist/TV host Jeff Majors and the Legendary Al Johnson, who would go on to become her mentor before his passing in October 2013.

In 2011 she appeared on the TV talk show "Voices with Queen Jefferson" sharing the platform with well known Radio personality Justine Love
