Claretha Elder was born, raised and educated in Detroit, MI.

As a child her home was filled with the sounds of music. Her father,

the late Will Hairston was a gospel singer and songwriter. He was known as the “Hurricane of the Motor City.” With such a strong heritage in music at home and at church, Claretha (Clare) knew that music was her God given calling.

Claretha majored in music at Murray Wright High School and Wayne State University. Claretha taught music at The Clark Conservatory School of Music under the direction of the legendary, Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. Claretha has sung and recorded with some of gospels greatest artists such as The Clark Sisters and J. Moss. She has also performed in the hit gospel stage plays, Perilous Times and Me & Jesus.

Claretha is blessed to be married to her wonderful husband of 32 years, Pastor Michael A. Elder, pastor of Harvest Temple Church in Detroit, MI., where she works faithfully in the ministry. God has blessed their union with six wonderful children.

Claretha, having faith in God, the support of her husband, children and church family knows that nothing is impossible and the best is yet to come.
