Calling to Ordination : A Journey of Faith and Service
In 2017 , a grant from LWPT became a lifeline for Cara Gibbs as she answered the call to ordained ministry in the Church of England . Balancing theological studies with marriage , a demanding job in a boys ’ school and a recent move to Balham , she also faced the challenge of dyslexia .
‘ I am deeply grateful to LWPT for the grant I received during my training ,’ Cara shares . ‘ It allowed me to buy essential books , enabling me to study at my own pace . This practical support relieved financial pressure and gave me the tools to succeed in my studies .’
Cara ’ s journey began in 2012 / 13 while working in youth and children ’ s ministry , with ordination becoming a clear path by 2015 . She studied Theology , Mission and Ministry at St Mellitus College in London , completing her
Cara Gibbs training in 2018 .
In June 2019 , Cara was ordained at St Paul ’ s Cathedral and began her curacy at St Dionis Church in Parsons Green , all while raising two young children . Her ministry focused on outreach to mums , children ’ s programmes and women ’ s ministry , reflecting her passion for building connections within the community .
In 2022 , Cara was licensed as Assistant Priest at The Ascension Church in Balham , where she now partners with her husband , the vicar . Together , they lead services , oversee Alpha courses and support a range of ministries .
Reflecting on the grant ’ s impact , Cara says , ‘ I am so thankful for the grant from the Leaders of Worship and Preachers Trust . It relieved a lot of pressure at the time and it enabled me to complete my studies . Thanks LWPT and thanks be to God .’
Cara ’ s story highlights the far-reaching effects of LWPT ’ s mission to equip leaders and preachers . Through practical and financial aid , LWPT empowers individuals to fulfil their calling and bring transformative ministry to communities across the UK .
Thanks to LWPT donors , this is just one of many stories of a life changed and ministries launched .
