Grants update : David Germon

It has been a great privilege to do a full-time bachelor ’ s degree in theology at Union School of Theology in South Wales and I am currently coming towards the end of my third and final year of study .
The experience and learning have been most helpful in my ministerial formation . Though I have served in leadership in churches before undertaking this study I have further developed skills that will stay with me throughout my ministry . The opportunity to focus on the study of theology has helped me to combine my passionate interests into what will form my future service to the church .
A few months before I began studying in 2020 , our youngest daughter Lydia passed away at the age of 4 after hospital treatments caused damage to her brain . While this devastated our family and made doing just about anything difficult , I have been grateful that this course has given me something to focus on and a sense of purpose . I am grateful that Union lecturers have been patient with me at a time when I was often not at my optimal best . Life experience and study have helped me prepare

for further service to the church and people with disabilities in the church . I know from the experience of caring for Lydia with the disabilities she had , that the church could improve our care for people with disabilities .
I was relieved and delighted to have completed my dissertation recently titled “ Should the second great commandment ” in Matthew 22 , to love your neighbour as yourself , be applied differently to people with physical disabilities in the contemporary British church ?”
There have been many challenges while studying , such as Covid 19 and finding the finances to study . As Union is a private college , the student loan I receive only covers part of each year ’ s tuition and so I was very grateful to LWPT for their grant , which helped to pay towards the shortfall of my second year . Union themselves have also been patient and helpful in this regard . I graduate in July and will appreciate your prayers and support in future ministry . You will be able to follow and support my ministry at djgministries . com
Thank you . David
