In Loving Memory
Gifts Received from the Estates of Alumnae
Elise Galtier '40
We are honored to acknowledge a most generous gift of more than $1.4 million given to
Immaculate Conception Academy from the estate of Elise Galtier. We featured a story on
Elise in the spring issue of the Update and at that time, we did not know the extent of her
gift. Needless to say, we were overwhelmed when we received the news that it was more
than $1.4 million. Elise suppor ted ICA beginning with the first improvement campaign in 1983,
continued with the building of Herbst Hall and was a member of the “Sponsor a Spar tan”
program at the time of her death. Elise passed away on November 13, 2012, at age 91.
She was the beloved daughter of late Augustine and Marie Galtier. She was a native of San
Francisco, a member of French Hospital Auxiliary and Lafayette Club of SF. Her funeral Mass
was held at Notre Dame des Victoires Church.
Nora (Riordan) Schoenstein '39
Nora Schoenstein remembered her Alma Mater fondly and we received $82,500 from her estate. She was the beloved wife
of the late Lawrence Schoenstein, brother of Sister Mary Mark Schoenstein, O.P., Dominican Sister of Mission San Jose. Sister
Mary Mark shared that Nora was an old friend of the family and married her brother, Lawrence when they were both in
their 70s and had lost their spouses. She was a tremendous suppor t to the entire Schoenstein family She was preceded in
death by her parents, Julia and Timothy Riordan, sister Mary Ryan, and brother, Peter Riordan. Her funeral Mass was held at
Nazareth House in San Rafael where she was presiding.
