About Predictive Analytics: Predictive analytics is a form of advanced analytics that uses both new and historical data to forecast activity, behavior, and trends. It involves applying statistical analysis techniques, analytical queries, and automated machine learning algorithms to data sets to create predictive models that place a numerical value—or score—on the likelihood of a particular event happening. Major applications of predictive analytics include customer segmentation, risk assessment, churn prevention, sales forecasting, market analysis, and financial modeling. Recent activities in predictive analytics software covering IBM include: IBM announced the launch of 3 new releases of its IBM SPSS offering in the Predictive Analytics space: IBM SPSS Modeler 18.2, Analytic Server 3.1.2 and Collaboration & Deployment Services 8.2. IBM and NVIDIA have collaborated to expand open source machine learning tools for data scientists. This collaboration would see the use of NVIDIA GPUs to power the IBM Watson Machine Learning and IBM Watson Studio applications, which would enable artificial intelligence enthusiasts to make and deploy models quickly. Fluor is looking to use IBM Watson to add predictive analytics capability to its megaprojects. Fluor, which has massive engineering, construction, and fabrication expertise, has partnered with IBM to use artificial intelligence to analyze the procurement, engineering, and fabrication in its megaprojects.
