Life After the Gridiron... Seneca McMillan
Four years ago I was invited to participate in a former
player outreach program provided by the NFL. At the time
I had no idea how greatly it was to affect my future or the
brotherhood connections that I would make with the right
men. I was invited by the league to take part in the NFL
TAP program, whose theme was all about transition.
Through player programs, player networking, scholarships,
grants and league career interviews my eyes were opened
and things began to change a lot for me. Life after
football now had a lot of possibilities including cofounding
the NFL Alumni Central Florida Chapter, joining the NFL
“fast track” officiating program, receiving a degree from
Georgia Tech University and raising over 300k for Central
Florida nonprofits.
I realize that making it to the pros is only one part of the
journey. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a life-game changer,
but it’s also a tool that can be leveraged to elevate your
career in many different ways. Coach once told me days
before I was released, “Once a packer, always a packer”
and that’s the same with men that have played a decade
or a few games.
The brotherhood is strong and in a way, it helped me to
understand exactly what I wanted to do for former players
who needed to know what I now know. Outside of the
world of real estate and my family, my passion for the past
three years has been the success of my chapter coupled
with the fulfilment of the charity work that we do. It’s a
satisfying feeling to still be able to use my “former player”
platform to advance agendas that matter to me and my
community here in Central Florida.
The NFLA Central Florida Chapter is doing great things
and I ask all IBA Success readers to please join us at all
of our upcoming Pro events! The biggest misconception
that people have is that the NFLA is only for former
players, however you too can join! Let us create winning
opportunities to help our local community.
Whether you played football or worked to make our game
possible, you can join our elite membership as a Player,
Spouse, Professional, Associate or Cheerleader. Check
us out on social media and follow us to stay current
on what’s next in football and Central Florida events. The
following events are listed to take place for the remainder
of the year through the super bowl in 2018.
