Almond blossom celebrated at Sunraysia events
Dining in the Blossom
Outback Almonds, on the Darling River north of Wentworth staged its fifth year of Dining in the Blossom during August. One hundred and forty people attended the event and while most were from the Mildura region, some travelled from Melbourne for the experience. The Douglas family’ s dome shed that is used to store almonds after harvest, was once again transformed into a dining hall, where three of the five courses were served. Prior to dinner, Tom spent time in the orchard, answering questions about how almonds are grown. This year guests also had the chance to see the first stage of the historic Garston Woolshed restoration. Tom and Tegan plan to complete the project in two further stages, creating an events space and farm shop overlooking the river.

Mallee Almond Blossom Festival
Robinvale was the place to be on August 16, for the Mallee Almond Blossom Festival. The town’ s Community Arts Centre precinct was filled with people, enjoying live music, food trucks and market stalls. Bus tours to a nearby almond orchard were again in high demand with people wanting to take photos amongst the blossom. Select Harvests ensured there were almonds available to sample and buy at the event. Local Felicina Franco won $ 250 for her winning entry in the Bake Off competition.
