When I joined the Vienna Philharmonic in 2000, it was a complete contrast to my LSO
experience: here was a brass section which played extremely quietly. So, as a result, my
embouchure was being pulled around everywhere, having gone from the LSO playing really
full on Star Wars-type-things all of the time to now playing with the Vienna Philharmonic, who
played incredibly quietly, in the opera pit. On top of this change, my solo career was growing
and developing. As a result, my embouchure was having to deal with the demands of a dramatic
range of both repertoire and environment. The one person, who I never actually met, but
who helped me to negotiate my way through this, was Arnold Jacobs. I found his words to be
unbelievably helpful.

Which brings me to where I am today: a teacher, a soloist, and a conductor. The people who
have heavily influenced me through their playing over the years have been Don Lusher, Denis
Wick, Glen Dodgson and Robert Isele. The people who have influenced me as teachers have
been my father, Denis Wick, Arnold Jacobs, Eric Crees, Rex Martin and Jonas Bylund. The
people who have inspired me to do more practice through their sheer excellence are Joe Alessi
and Christian Lindberg!
