Australian almonds in
the global spotlight
The ABA ' s industy update at Gulfoods was well attended .
GULFOODS in Dubai was ridiculously busy for all who participated . It is clear that among the 150,000 attendees and the 5000 exhibitors that many were chasing Australian almonds . Aside from the Indians who had followed us from Delhi , there were buyers from far beyond the Middle East approaching the booth looking for almonds . The ABA booth featured two meeting rooms which were well utilised by marketers . Finding a quiet place for a meeting at Gulfoods is almost impossible unless you make provision on your own stand . Screening the meeting rooms provided privacy and ensure those waiting could not hijack a meeting with a potential competitor . Lou Martin co-ordinated the stand for the first time and the level of enquiry kept all very busy throughout . Often potential buyers returned three and four times to nail a meeting with a marketer . The ABA ’ s traditional
Gulfoods industry update at the end of day three was again a success . A panel of three marketers in Jake Langdon ( Almondco ), Mark Williams ( NPA ) and Ekrem Omer ( Select Harvests ) provided information on the new season crop and the product suite available to the invite only audience . Members of the Indian buying community were on hand but the event was expanded to attract potential buyers from the Middle East and featured significant brands from Saudi Arabia , Kuwait , Oman , Lebanon

and the UAE . The fifth Almond Ashes cricket match was held on the eve of Gulfoods . The India buyers defeated Australia by 22 runs to establish a 3-2 lead . The event has been widely lauded as one of the smartest marketing promotions conducted by industry capitalising on our mutual love for cricket and opportunity it creates for relationship building . The Almond Ashes will reside in the office of emerging Indian trader Taneja Ashwini in Dubai until next year .
