DAVID SURVEYOR SELECT HARVESTS
Q . How long have you been involved in the almond industry ?
I am new to the industry having joined Select Harvests as the Managing Director in February 2023 . I am based in Richmond but love getting out to the farms and processing plant .
Q . What prompted you to join the ABA board ?
I think agriculture is a key part of Australia . People around Australia and the world consume our healthy products . As farmers and processors we care for and provide stewardship to the land . We employ directly and indirectly thousands of people as result of the almond industry and so the families of our people get to enjoy their lives as a result of this . The Almond Board plays a key role in developing and supporting the Australian industry . By being part of the Almond Board I hope to contribute to this today and for the future .
Q . Do you have a highlight from either being on the ABA board or working in the industry ?
The highlight has been seeing the passion for the industry .
Q . What ’ s one priority that you are hoping to see the ABA board focus on in the coming year ?
I think we need to do more in the marketing space to differentiate Australian almonds and position the taste and health attributes of our products . I would like to see the industry invest more money in understanding the product and market segments we play in and how we can maximise the price of Australian almonds . And I think bees remains a critical topic for 2024 .
Q . What do you enjoy doing in your spare time ?
Spending time with the family and badly playing a bit of golf .
Q . What is the best way to eat an almond ?
Almonds can be used in so many wonderful ways but I do enjoy almond in pastries and just eating a handful raw .
