people whom she feels will be vital for her in the future. Haynes knows now that her social abilities will bring her connections in her future business roles.

Courtney Haynes feels that she has a special gift because she is able to help people who are quiet and shy come out of their shell. She is able to converse with people and make new friends. She does not see herself as someone who sticks with one group of people but rather as someone who is well-rounded and willing to step out of her comfort zone.

Dr. Walter May, Dean of Student Activities at Reinhardt, is impressed with this student leader. “Courtney is someone who is one of a kind. She is very well spoken and has no [problem] pitching ideas and trying to make activities more fun,” he says.

Haynes, who has always had a passion for working with children, is currently major-ing in Early Childhood Education. She wants to help mentor children who have endured the same struggles that she has gone through. She wants to be able to paint a picture and set a path for people who come after her, so fewer people will need to struggle as she has.

Though she has undergone many adversities, she doesn’t regret a single one of them. Instead, she feels that they are a major part of her life story.

When it comes to Reinhardt, Haynes hopes to see more people step out of their own boxes, like she did, and meet people with whom they normally wouldn’t interact. Her ultimate goal is to leave her mark on this campus just as Reinhardt has left a mark on her.

“Just when she is walking around, she will speak to almost every person that walks by, and we felt that we needed someone that can reach various groups and bring them together.”
