My phone buzzed in the middle of the movie. @imjordanrandall just tweeted you. It had only been a few minutes since I had tweeted a picture from the TWLOHA (To Write Love On Her Arms) movie premiere in Florida when an account that belonged to some guy in Syracuse, New York, was tweeting back at me about it. He looked harmless, so I continued in this back-and-forth tweet session about the TWLOHA movie. A few months earlier, @imjordan-randall had tweeted me about another picture I had posted, but I’d completely ignored him. Now, somehow, talking about the movie turned into talking about movie theater popcorn and how immensely more delicious it is than microwaveable popcorn.

Long Distance Friendlationships

Next thing I know, @imjordanrandall and I are talking every single day and FaceTiming at least three times a week for a minimum of two hours.

That’s how I met my best friend: Twitter and movie theater popcorn.

After only a couple weeks of our newfound friendship, one thing was absolutely certain: Syracuse, New York, and Canton, Georgia, might as well be two entirely different planets. The difference between our worlds was undoubtedly noticeable by the way we tried to navigate conversations and learn about one another in this new relationship.

“Did you just say, ‘Y’all’?” he asked one afternoon when we were on the phone, then burst into a fit of laughter.
