Ogrodzieniec Castle THE RIALTO BRIDGE The history of this place starts in the 12th century when the first borough was built on the Mountain of Janowski. After it being plundered and burned to the ground in 1241 by Tatars, owners of that land decided to build a castle made of stone. Many people owned it, tried to rebuild it and adapt to still changing styles of architecture. It suffered no serious damage throughout the ages until Swede attacks in 1655 and 1702 after which were the beginning of the fall of that mighty fortress. The Rialto Bridge is one of the four bridges that crosses the Canal Grande, the Rialto Bridge is the oldest and has got the most famous history: around 1250 the Rialto Bridge was substituted by a wood bridge . This bridge could leave to permit the crossing to the boats. Its name is this because it was associated to the market. In 1310 the bridge was damaged for a revolt. In 1434 the bridge collapsed under the weight of many people at the wedding of the Marquis of Ferrara. The stone bridge of today was realized by Antonio da Ponte and Antonio Contin. It was completed in 1591. The stone bridge and the wood bridge are very similar for the their structure. Now the Rialto Bridge has become one of the symbols of Venice. – Aurora, Mariarita & Gloria, Marco Belli But done with history! Why is it a place worth seeing?
