FIFA WORLD CUP! It's hard to imagine it's been 4 years already and yet another wonderful experience is up and around the corner…I'm talking of course about the world cup coming to you this summer from Brazil, no less. The South African experience was crazy! So many fans from around the world discovered again the African continent, and despite fears of disorder and what not, the organization was actually great, the fans were happy and the soccer..Ah the soccer! It will be the second time that Brazil has hosted the competition, the previous being in 1950. The 2014 tournament will be the most expensive FIFA World Cup in history. Forecasts on the eve of the tournament estimate the cost to the Brazilian government will be $14 billion. Spain was the big winner in the last tournament (and the two euro tournaments before and after that-which is quite amazing, well what else can you expect from the ultimate champions?? ;) But can the Spaniards do it again? How about Argentina? can Leo Messi or Ronaldo, the best players carry their resp. teams to take on the world cup on Brazil soil no less ? or will the locals, the wonderful Brazilian team with the much-talked-about-star Neymar bring home the trophy and celebrate the Brazilian way ? Well, no matter the outcome..this journey is sure going to be fun!! Anyways, who are you chipping in for?? I, like a true Spaniard fan will be cheering for Spain..though the odds seem to be in the favour of the Germans! What are your opinions? –Drishti Jain CHRISTIANO RONALDO Ronaldo is one of the most prolific strikers. In 1997 from Nacional he arrives at Sporting Club de Pourtugal , playing for five years in the youth team and quickly showing his talent. He was noticed by Manchester United in a friendly match against Sporting Lisbon , which took place in july 2003 .The English team lost the match 2-0 thanks also to the young Pourtuguese talent. On 13th August 2003 Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Manchester United for 12,24 millions of pounds , making it the most expensive teenag champion in football history. - Vincenzo Carbone, IIS Galilei JOHN TERRY My favourite footballer is John Terry. He is an English professional footballer, he is the captain of Chelsea in the Premier League. He was also the captain of the England national football team. Born in Barking, east London, Terry attended Eastbury Comprehensive School and played for local Sunday League side Senrab, which also feature future Premier League players Sol Campbell, Jermain Defoe, Bobby Zamora, Ledley King and Jlloyd Samuel. As a boy, he initially was part of West Ham United's youth system, joining them as a midfielder in 1991. He moved to Chelsea at 14, playing for the club's youth and reserve teams. It was due to a shortage of central defenders that he was moved to central defender, the position he plays today.. -Mario Racioppi PAGE 33
