VENICE: THE BASILICA OF SAINT MARK The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Mark in Venice is the principal church of the city and it was seat of the patriarch of Venice. It is one of the important monuments of Saint Mark Square. Since 1807 it became a Cathedral. The first church dedicated to Saint Mark was created near of the Ducal Palace in 820 and in this place were put up Saint Mark's relics. The Saint Mark's bell tower was built in the ninth century.The original church of Saint Mark was replaced from a new church in 832.
