Trees and plants all are green The nature is a wonderful machine. It was so green But unfortunately it is now just a dream. All the green has now disappeared Since cruelty of people have appeared. Nature lovers are hard to find, There are more with cruel mind Chopping trees all the time, Giving nature a very hard time. -SIDDHI (An excerpt from Siddhi’s poem) SACISTHA SHRESTHA Nepal is blessed with a rich cultural heritage. Culture has been called 'the way of life for an entire society'. The culture of Nepal is a unique combination of tradition and novelty. Culture in Nepal is an assemblage of music, architecture, religion and literature. One of the most ancient and special tomb of Nepal is the Swayambhunath Stupa. A golden spire crowning a conical wooded hill, it is the most ancient and enigmatic of all the holy shrines in Kathmandu valley. Its lofty white dome and glittering golden spire are visible for many miles and from all sides of the valley. The Swayambhunath Temple was a vital destination for Buddhist pilgrimages and is today still a very important destination for religious adventurers. It is believed that a miraculous lotus, planted by Lord Buddha, which blossomed from the lake that once covered Kathmandu valley, radiated a brilliant light, and thus came the name of the place Swayambhu, meaning 'Self-Created or Self-Existent'–Radhika Agarwal PAGE 8
