If you did not make it to Taste of the Islands Experience on June 1, 2017 at the Miramar Cultural Center, then you did not miss a thing. The Taste the Islands Experience from show creators Blondie Ras Productions, co-sponsored by Wayne Messam, City of Miramar’s Mayor, proved to be a frustrating experience. The event was to translate the show’s experience into this event called The Taste the Islands Experience. It was to highlight a selection of gourmet appetizers arranged by the show’s celebrity chefs Jamaican Hugh “Chef Irie” Sinclair and Haitian Cynthia “Chef Thia” Verna. The event also promised to include a preview of the new season of Taste of the Islands and a cooking demonstrations.
The Good:
Those who were in attendance enjoyed a festive atmosphere with lively Caribbean music, a selection of Caribbean cocktails for a fee, complimentary non- alcoholic drinks, and a taste of the islands. Attendees were also given a parting gift bag with a magazine, and a few goodies.
The Bad:
The food while good was scarce. The layout of the food proved to be insufficient for the number of attendees. Before the food was laid out people ran to the trays if you were not quick enough you lucked out. When the trays were fortunate to make it on a table those who were standing around the table took what was there. The time span between when a tray of food was brought out was too long. People appeared to stand around looking and hoping for something to eat.
