CHICAGO - 10 HOOP COMMANDMENTS
RULE # 1 – THOU SHALT NOT BE ONE DIMENSIONAL Congregrants must be able to put the ball in the basket . It doesn ’ t matter how fast a player is , or how tall or strong she might be . This is basketball and in this city we don ’ t embrace one dimensional players . Players that can just dunk the ball or have a tricky handle … no ! We respect guys that can play the game right and score the ball !
RULE # 2 - THOU SHALT NOT BE SOFT You ’ ve got to have some heart to play the game in this city . Here in Chicago , the game is 80 % heart and 20 % talent . If you don ’ t believe me , just take a look at West Side basketball .
RULE # 3 – THOU SHALT NOT COME TO PLAY UNPREPARED Scripture says “ Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance !” You must work on your game , develop your fundamental skill set and stay in shape . In this city you must be war-ready 94 feet at all times .
RULE # 4 – THOU SHALT NOT BE THE WACKEST LINK ON THE COURT You have to be able to stop somebody on defense . Remember this is a scoring town don ’ t be a vic .
RULE # 5 -THOU SHALL PROTECT THE PILL Thou must be able to protect the ball from those looking to violate you , especially in crunch time .
RULE # 6 – THOU SHALT NOT WORSHIP IDOLS Remember your opponent is a man or woman just

RULE # 7 - THOU SHALL ALWAYS DISPLAY SPORTSMANSHIP Basketball is a very emotional sport , but you must remain under self control at all times . Respect the game and all parties involved . From fans and facility to referees - honor and respect the game .
RULE # 8 – THOU SHALL TRASH TALK You must be able to give and receive trash talk in an orderly fashion . A strong mouth piece is a weapon if used properly . Be prepared to back those words up by any means though . Don ’ t let your mouth write a check if your bank account is set up a certain way .
RULE # 9 – THOU SHALT NOT BE SELFISH Must be a team player and be able to work with others for one common goal . Understand your position and play your role within a team concept .
RULE # 10 – KNOW THY HISTORY Learn the history of our sport in this city . There are valuable lessons laced within our rich hoop tradition and exploits of your forefathers . Preserve our history and respect the legends like myself . We paved the way for young ball players and you should too .
