CRIB COACHES

# Scribe : Lefty B . Boyd

AS PLAYERS THESE CHICAGO COACHES NEVER WANTED TO RIDE THE BENCH . NOW THEY RUN THE BENCH !

This issue IACB caught up with some Chicago born and raised College assistant coaches to ask them questions concerning the life of being a recruiter and to drop us a few Jews the AAU , high school coaches , parents , and the young student athletes looking to earn a college athletic scholarship . With us today we got :
• WILL BAILEY , Former Dunbar HS Ball player , Currently Asst . Coach @ St . Louis University
• RONALD ‘ CHIN ’ COLEMAN , Former South Shore HS Ball player , Currently Asst . Coach @ UIC
• ROBERT JETER , Former Luther South HS Ball player , Currently Asst . @ UNLV
• PARIS PARHAM , Former Dunbar HS Ball player , Currently Asst . Coach @ Illinois University .
Q . WHAT DO YOU GENERALLY LOOK FOR IN RECRUITING A PROSPECT ? WILL BAILEY I look for players with good motors . The ones that play hard the entire game and have good work ethics on and off the court . Must be a good team player who wants to be apart of something and build with it . RONALD ‘ CHIN ’ COLEMAN Basketball is a skilled game where you have to dribble , pass , and shoot . So I look for players with various skill sets that we need on our team .... But it ’ s a lot of dimensions that come with recruiting a player to college . ROBERT JETER I look for what we need on our team . A tough talented kid that must be respectful to family , fans , and teammates . PARIS PARHAM The first thing is talent . Talent is the key . Now trying to figure out what level that talent goes in is the evaluation . Every player feels like they can play at the highest level but it ’ s a lot that goes into recruiting a player like ‘ Character ’. This is how we feed our families . We bring kids from different walks of life . We deal with 18 year Olds and bring them into the fold in hopes that they don ’ t do anything crazy and make the right choices when we are not around . Q . WHAT WOULD TURN YOU OFF FROM RECRUITING A PLAYER ? WILL BAILEY If I ’ m in the stands watching a recruit talk back to his coach or not playing hard and taking breaks during the game will turn me off . RONALD ‘ CHIN ’ COLEMAN A recruit that lacks a specialty on the court . I question if those types are tough enough to play on this level . ROBERT JETER Attitude . Being a selfish player and not being respectful to family & friends
