The Penalty Box:
Game Summary: Miamis
Warding off:
This week practice went pretty well. We had to cancel practice on
Tuesday but we got in a good practice on Thursday. We spent a
good amount of time in practice this week focusing on ground balls
and boxing out. Today we played a very good team from Upper
Arlington today and I think we showed them that Hilliard Lacrosse
means serious business. Passing and catching today was much
improved from last week’s game against Delaware. We were doing a much better job making passes to clear the ball from the
defensive end of the field and quickly transition to attack.
A penalty called on a
ball carrier while
holding the stick with
one hand, using or
moving the other
hand or arm to move,
block or interfere with
a defenders stick. A stationary arm in place
can be held in position and block anything in
it's path (see Paul Gait video clip) but the moment it changes it's position relative to the
body while in contact with the opponent a
Ward will be called.
However, today we got beat on ground balls, plain and simple.
The other team was doing a much better job at boxing us out and
getting low on ground balls. Too often I would see our guys overrunning ground balls because they were not getting low enough
and scooping through the ball so this coming week we are going to
continue to work on ground ball possession.
Overall they boys made a really good effort today. I was really
proud of the way they were vocalizing while on the field and communicating with each other. If we can get a little better on the
ground balls we are going to be unstoppable!
On a side note…Parents please remind your boys to use the restroom before they come to practice, our practice time is limited so
when a player has to leave the field they are missing out on valuable instruction time. Please also remember we would like to see
players dressed and ready to start at the designated practice
times.
