HYLA Newsletter
This year, HYLA will be putting together a weekly newsletter for all parents and players to read together. Team
coaches will be providing us with a game summary of each week. We will also be using the newsletter to provide
information about what’s going on elsewhere in HYLA, with the board, and the lacrosse community in general. If
you have ideas for the newsletter, a great picture you took during one of the games, or have questions you’d like to
have answered in the newsletter please contact one of the board members.

This week practice went pretty well. We had to cancel practice on Tuesday but we got in a good practice on Thursday. We spent a good amount
of time in practice this week focusing on ground balls and boxing out. Today we played a very good team from Upper Arlington today and I think we
showed them that Hilliard Lacrosse means serious business. Passing
and catching today was much improved from last week’s game against
Delaware. We were doing a much better job making passes to clear the
ball from the defensive end of the field and quickly transition to attack.
However, today we got beat on ground balls, plain and simple. The other
team was doing a much better job at boxing us out and getting low on
ground balls. Too often I would see our guys overrunning ground balls
because they were not getting low enough and scooping through the ball
so this coming week we are going to continue to work on ground ball possession.
Overall they boys made a really good effort today. I was really proud of
the way they were vocalizing while on the field and communicating with
each other. If we can get a little better on the ground balls we are going to
be unstoppable!
On a side note…Parents please remind your boys to use the restroom
before they come to practice, our practice time is limited so when a player

Good sportsmanship occurs when
teammates, opponents, coaches,
and officials treat each other with
respect. Kids learn the basics of
sportsmanship from the adults in
their lives, especially their parents
and their coaches.
Kids who see adults behaving in a
sportsmanlike way gradually come
to understand that the real
winners in sports are those who
know how to persevere and to
behave with dignity – whether
they win or lose a game
