Hysata opens new electrolyser manufacturing facility On 14 August , Australian electrolyser company Hysata officially opened its new 8,000 m ² global headquarters and electrolyser manufacturing facility in Port Kembla .
The
Australian Government , through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency ( ARENA ), has given a vote of confidence in Hysata ’ s technology by announcing a AUD 20.9 million grant from its Advancing Renewables Program . This funding will support commercial demonstration of a 5 MW electrolyser unit to be trialled adjacent to the Stanwell Power Station near Rockhampton , Queensland .
Hysata CEO Paul Barrett said this is a pivotal moment in the company ’ s rapid technological and commercial scaling , as they work towards fulfilling a 9.4GW pipeline of signed conditional orders and letters of intent .
“ Hysata ’ s new facility in Port Kembla signals the next phase of our scale-up journey . Our plan encompasses the construction of a 100 MW per annum production line , with commercial-scale units scheduled for delivery in 2025 , including the 5 MW electrolyser unit for
Stanwell ’ s project . And we will ramp up rapidly to giga scale capacity thereafter ,” said Dr Barrett .
Ovako inaugurates Sweden ’ s largest electrolysis plant On 5 September , Ovako , a Swedish steel producer and one of the largest steel recyclers in the Nordic countries , inaugurated a green hydrogen production plant at its Hofors mill . The fossil-free hydrogen produced in the new facility will be used to heat steel at adjacent rolling mills , reducing CO 2 emissions to nearly zero .
The new 20 MW plant will generate 3,880 m 3 of fossilfree hydrogen per hour . In addition to steel heating , the hydrogen will be used for fuelling fuel cell-powered trucks , and the excess heat from the plant will be used for district heating .
The inauguration marks a significant milestone in the effort towards a more sustainable steel industry , with the potential for substantial reductions in global emissions , including other heavy industries .
“ Our steel mill in Hofors was founded as early as the 16th century , and with the new hydrogen plant , we begin a new chapter in Swedish steel history ,” said Marcus Hedblom , President and CEO of Ovako Group . “ Heating steel products has previously required large amounts of fossil fuels . We are now the first in the world to heat steel with fossil-free hydrogen before rolling , reducing the emissions in this production step to almost zero .”
