Dongfang Electric validates direct seawater electrolysis technology Dongfang Electric Corporation ( DEC ), a Chinese manufacturer of power generators , has successfully tested nondesalinated seawater electrolysis technology for hydrogen production powered by offshore wind . The testing took place at an offshore wind farm in Fujian province , located in East China .
This project was a joint effort by DEC and a research team led by academician Xie Heping from the Chinese Academy of Engineering .
The floating hydrogen production platform Dongfu One integrates onsite hydrogen production , smart energy conversion management , safety monitoring and control , as well as loading and unloading systems . The successful test validates the feasibility and stability of direct seawater electrolysis technology in a real ocean environment .
Ohmium partners with Aquastill to produce hydrogen from seawater Ohmium International has announced a strategic collaboration with Aquastill , which specializes in modular membrane distillation technology that uses the power of waste heat for desalination . The collaboration will enable Ohmium to use desalinated seawater as an input in green hydrogen production .
By integrating Aquastill ’ s desalination capabilities with Ohmium ’ s modular electrolyzers , the collaboration will create new decarbonization opportunities for businesses operating in coastal areas by providing a more efficient , sustainable and affordable way of producing clean energy . In addition , the innovative integration of modular desalination units will facilitate new applications for costeffective green hydrogen production , including colocating PEM electrolyzers with offshore wind farms , to enable the production of green hydrogen at source . Ohmium and Aquastill have begun assessing optimal integration of these technologies , with the intention of having these finetuned modules commercially available as soon as possible .
Aquastill ’ s technology is powered by the residual heat from Ohmium ’ s electrolyzers and the membrane distillation process simultaneously provides additional cooling capabilities for the electrolyzer . Unlike other energy-intensive desalination technologies , the waste heat membranebased distillation process has minimal energy requirements . These advanced desalination modules feature a modular and compact system design , making them easily transportable to wherever clean water is needed .
HydrogenPro expands production capacity to 500 MW HydrogenPro has successfully upgraded and increased its electrolyser production capacity at the Tianjin plant in China by 66 %, from 300 MW to 500 MW .
With this additional production unit in China , complementing planned units in the U . S . and Europe , and bolstered by a strategic partnership with Andritz , HydrogenPro is better positioned to address the increasing international demand for electrolysers and green hydrogen .
The company has already secured a substantial contract to supply 40 electrolysers to the world ’ s largest green hydrogen hub in the U . S . These electrolysers are now being manufactured at the Tianjin facility .
